The Cat Empire - Australian promotional releases - Oct 2003 Album (2003)

Oct 2003 Album was the title of one of two advance promotional releases of The Cat Empire's self titled debut album that was sent to reviewers and critics before the official release of the album. The disc was sent out in a slimline jewel case (not a cardboard slipcase) and contains no artwork whatsoever. It was pressed by Virgin Australia in 2003, with the catalogue number PR337.

The release is an earlier cut of the album, with a differing tracklist which adds the track Feline as number seven. It also switches Beanni and The Chariot, forming the same tracklisting as found on the European (Universal) release of the debut album, as follows:
1. How to Explain? - 3:37 - F Riebl
2. Days Like These - 4:07 - F Riebl, H Angus, O McGill
3. The Lost Song - 3:15 - F Riebl
4. Beanni - 2:18 - F Riebl
5. Hello - 3:44 - F Riebl
6. One Four Five - 3:24 - F Riebl
7. Feline - 2:36 - F Riebl
8. The Rhythm - 3:24 - F Riebl, H Angus
9. The Wine Song - 7:22 - H Angus
10. Nothing - 3:41 - F Riebl
11. The Chariot - 5:35 - F Riebl
12. The Crowd - 5:16 - H Angus
13. Manifesto - 2:34 - H Angus
14. All That Talking - 6:53 - F Riebl

Tracks 1, 2, 11, 12 and 13 feature subtle differences in them. Track 1 adds extra percussion at 1:11 which can also be heard throughout the horns chorus in the following 20 seconds or so. Track 2 has a different 'one two' sample present in the background (0:16 is the first time it appears). After the pan flutes in Track 11, at approx 2:28, Felix's muttering is not present. At 2:47, Felix's voice is dubbed over twice (when he says "made from a-timber and steel"). The end of the track also features approx two extra seconds of percussion. Track 12 adds an extra two seconds of near-silence at the beginning where we can only hear what sounds like rain in the background. Track 13 does not include the whole band yelling in the background present at about 0:50, with only one or two members audible.

There are most likely many more differences I have not uncovered yet (as I am too impatient to listen to them all).

Disc (sorry about the bad scan - the light from the scanner reflects straight off an unprinted disc).

It is also worth noting that track three, The Lost Song is misspelt as The Last Song (an 'a' in Lost instead of an 'o').
